ComicCon Nostalgia

I've just reviewed some of Dan's most recent work on the Triad#1 and I must say, things are really coming along nicely. We're looking at sending the first issue to the printer on or around August 7, and hope to receive the copies back by mid-August. Meanwhile - Dan will be pushing hard at the Chicago Wizard World Comic Con 2009 - trying to earn some recognition for G2! And as well as I know Dan - I am sure he will be turning some heads and grabbing some attention!
G2's last convention was the Project ComicCon: St. Louis where Dan met with Dark Horse editor Randy Stradley. Prior to that, and well before we were officially G2 Comics, (though we had the idea solidified) we had attended the 2007 Chicago Wizard World Comic Con where we were able to meet and even share some beers with some of the comic industry's greatest minds including Mark Millar (Wanted/Superman: Red Son) and Peter Steigerwald (colorist:Fathom/Witchblade). We also had the opportunity to meet the late Michael Turner, one of the comic industry's most brilliant minds, co-creator of the popular Witchblade comic series and creator of the Fathom and Soulfire books. Michael Turner passed away on June 27, 2008 of complications from bone cancer. He was an inspiration to many comic book fanboys, myself and my esteemed artist included. Having met him only 10 months earlier, it touched me to learn of his death, and to this day I recall the way he held one of the comics I had handed him and looked at it for a moment before signing it, as if recalling the day he had pencilled the cover. He had even gone as far as to page through it. I remember my own excitement at having found something from my collection to give him pause. Now, over a year after his death, I still periodically look through my collection of Turner books and Turner covers and dream that one day I will be part of such a magnificent legacy. Not for some believed glory or fame, nor for the movie deal or to sign with a major label ... but to see my work as I believe Michael Turner had seen it that day he held my prized comic: his Dream in the hands of people who believed in his story.

So, What is the Triad???

Set to release just mere weeks from now, anticipation is electric among those who have been following the conception, development and many growing pains of the Triad #1. Some may have contributed their $2 for a signed copy of the seven-page Triad Preview, and for that we are grateful. Some readers may have even had a glance at one of the three original Triad #1 comics in "Family Circus" format... (sorry Dan, but graciously you have come far since that original version in all its 2 dimensional splendor -and it gave me a tremendous opportunity to fine tune the story telling!) If you're here, thanks for joining us on this crusade!
So, likely, if you are reading this, you saw the G2 Comics site on the back cover of the Preview. And you may be wondering, upon reading the last page of the teaser "What is the Triad?" I'm glad you asked.
To state the obvious, the Triad are angels. But you probably already know that. You've seen the cover art, the preview pages, the gallery. And you'll continue to see all sorts of angels throughout the 4 issue miniseries - from some of the traditional heroes like Gabriel and Michael, to some of the new age faves like Azrael and Uriel.
Essentially, the Triad are the best of the best. They might be the strongest, the purest, the most powerful, or the merely the best politician. (With nine different levels to the angelic hierarchy, these beings are no strangers to bureaucracy.) The Tridians (as they are called for convenience) are selected during the most crucial times in celestial history: you may recall the role of the Angel of Death in the Ten Plagues unleashed upon Egypt during Israel's captivity; or the role of Gabriel in bringing about the annunciation of the birth of Christ. I hope to pursue these stories as "Tales of the Triad" with Dan's support in the future.
But something big is brewing in the celestial realm, and it is time once again for the heavenly host to choose three winged warriors to usher in the dawn of a new age. All the major players will show up for the fight - Lucifer and his demonic Legion, the Four Horsemen of Hell, and even Death itself. Hope to see you there!
